The Story…

What a unique and amazing place! The Hog House is in the most extraordinary location, with 360 degree views of valleys and hills that are spectacular - and it’s so peaceful!

A little about us…

The Hog House was completed in October 2022 after a year of renovation, previously the Hog House sat empty; used only as shelter for sheep and cattle during the wild winter months with the ground floor being open all year round. The upper floor of the barn was always closed off, accessed by a hatch from the ground floor (still in use today) or via the outer upper level door - originally used for the storage of animal feed.

Work on the building started late in 2021; the first job was to remove years of sheep muck from the ground floor (many many wheelbarrows full), once this was finished structural changes where needed - a new slate lintel was put in above the main entrance to the building, replacing an old broken piece. To get mains electricity to the property a 300m trench was dug from the nearby farm buildings, before a cable could be laid. Windows and doors where created by a local carpenter and installed in July 2022, the last few months where spent creating the interiors, installing homemade worksurfaces and plumbing in the shower and taps. We made sure the finish of property was comfortable and homely, with the main aim and centerpiece of the property being the outstanding view.

We’re Liam and Ellie - owners and creators of The Hog House! Our paths crossed during the summer of 2018 in the French Alps (a holiday romance that never ended). After spending a couple of years living apart; Ellie finishing off her university degree in Liverpool and Liam working as a project engineer in Telford - we found ourselves visiting the farm for a weekend when the country was placed into lockdown due to the pandemic. After a few months of lockdown, the degree was finished and Liam took voluntary redundancy - we then disappeared around Europe in a campervan for 6 months for a holiday of a lifetime! Coming back we never expected to continue living on the farm (where Ellie grew up) but circumstances and work opportunities led us to settle here. Creating The Hog House had always been a dream of Ellies, growing up it was her hideout and birthday party venue, luckily Liam’s knowledge, skills and can do attitude made the dream a reality. We are now extremely proud owners of The Hog House, a severely special place for us, which we can’t wait to share with you.
